DANCE PROGRAMS
DANCE LESSONS RUN FROM SEPTEMBER - MAY
Here at the Centre we offer instruction in learning the waltz, fox trot, polka and two-step.
These dance steps allow you to dance at any occasion you attend. Time on the dance floor is necessary to practice what you learn in the classes. Learning to dance is very often hard work, which is a surprise for many people. It is like learning to walk all over again step by step. Listening for the beat and deciding which dance is being played takes a lot of practice as well as learning to put the steps with the music. You need experience in recognizing the beat of the music and the tempo before you will be able to decide just what is being played.
Once you have mastered the skills of the basic dance steps, there is another level of dance available. While it is not for all dancers, many enjoy the challenge of learning even more steps. The next level is pattern dance. This is a series of choreographed steps set to a piece of music. The steps need to be memorized in order for you to dance to them at a local dance. So dancing is good exercise for the body, mind and spirit. The spirit is lifted when you attend the dances, listen to the music and visit with friends during the evening.
Classes will be scheduled at the Morden Activity Centre for a series of at least 8 classes on Monday evenings. Each class will be approximately 2 hours in length from 7:00 - 9:00 pm.
Line Dancing
A line dance is a choreographed dance with a repeated sequence of steps in which a group of people dance in one or more lines or row. Facing either one or in the same direction and executing the steps at the same time.
Line dance classes are held Monday evenings, Tuesday & Thursday mornings at the centre.
